Natural Resources, Environment, Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad
announced that Malaysia will host the International Sustainable Energy
Summit
(6th
ISES 2024) to take place next year.
The announcement was made at the 28th Conference of the Parties
to the
United
Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP 28) in Dubai, United
Arab
Emirates (UAE), marking another major step in Malaysia’s ongoing efforts to
champion
sustainable energy on a global scale.
Organised by the Sustainable Energy Development Authority (SEDA) of Malaysia
in
collaboration with the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment and
Climate Change
(NRECC), the summit will be held from Aug 20 to 21 next year.
In statement, it said that the summit aims is to serve as a catalyst for
transformative dialogue and reinforce Malaysia’s unwavering commitment to a
greener
future.
Speaking at the soft launch yesterday (Dec 4), Nik Nazmi said innovation
will take
centre stage in the era of cleaner and more efficient energy solutions.
“I look forward to increased participation from global experts and
industries alike
for the summit. The 6th ISES 2024 is a testament to
Malaysia’s unwavering commitment to achieving a just and systematic energy
transition,” he said.
Nik Nazmi also highlighted Malaysia’s role in leading the charge toward
sustainable
energy and emphasised the timely relevance of the biennial summit in the
context of
the global push for sustainable and clean energy solutions.
“The summit is vital platform for knowledge exchange, fostering innovation
and
unlocking new possibilities for sustainable energy solutions.”
Echoing this sentiment, 6th ISES 2024 organising chair and SEDA
Malaysia
chief
executive officer Datuk Hamzah Hussin also expressed anticipation for
broader
participation through regional alliances, building on the success of
previous years.
“SEDA Malaysia recognises our crucial role in shaping the future of energy
in the
country. Through this summit, we aim to cultivate innovative approaches and
technologies, steering us towards achieving the ambitious goal of a 70%
installed
renewable energy capacity mix by 2050,” he said.
Themed “Accelerating Energy Transition Through Innovation”, the summit will
showcase
groundbreaking sustainable solutions through
insightful conferences, extensive exhibitions, technology showcases, trade
programmes, and business matching sessions.
These elements will converge to create an immersive experience, positioning
the
summit as a pivotal event in the global sustainable energy landscape, it
added.
“The summit mirrors Malaysia’s dedication to propelling the global energy
transition
through innovative strategies,” it added.
